queer iranian representation at pride

In June 2025, Kucheh Kollective made history by building and organizing the first-ever Iranian float to participate in the World Pride Parade in Washington, DC. This groundbreaking project created an unprecedented platform for LGBTQ+ Iranian visibility, celebration, and cultural expression on a global stage.

Through a community-centered fundraising campaign, we exceeded our fundraising goal in just two weeks, with nearly 200 supporters contributing through small-dollar donations and community events.

Every dollar invested directly supported a collaborative process that engaged community members in the design, production, and execution of the project. More than a single event, the float demonstrated the power of arts-based organizing to build connection, foster belonging, and strengthen community leadership.

The enthusiasm, participation, and collective ownership generated through this effort continue to create momentum for future cultural and civic engagement initiatives.

AZADI’S JOURNEY CONTINUES

Following World Pride, the float was preserved in Washington, DC and now serves as a lasting community asset that will continue to participate in future Capital Pride celebrations. What began as a one-time initiative has evolved into an annual tradition that community members look forward to each year, demonstrating Kucheh Kollective's commitment to strategically investing in projects that generate enduring cultural visibility, community ownership, and long-term impact.
